Prince Christian posed for new photographs released by the Danish Royal House as he starts the school year at Herlufsholm in Næstved on Wednesday.
The Danish Royal House shared pictures of the teenage prince on social media at the new school, and one with his parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. The caption read that Prince Christian moved in on Tuesday and met his new schoolmates before classes begin on Wednesday.
Herlufsholm was founded in 1565 and is the oldest boarding school in Denmark. The school works to educate “the whole human being, enabling them to lead and take responsibility – for themselves, for each other and for the community we are all part of. We do this through personal development, professionalism and physical activity,” according to its website.
Herlufsholm lists its chief aim as one that gives “dedicated and talented young people the opportunity to excel for their own benefit and the common good. We are passionately interested in continually improving; developing the school, our students and ourselves – personally as well as professionally.”
Prince Christian had previously been a student at Tranegårdskolen in Gentofte since primary school and was the first member of the Danish Royal Family to attend nursery school.
In 2020, he and his siblings, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, attended the Lemania-Verbier International School in Verbier, Switzerland, for 12 weeks of the winter term before the coronavirus pandemic began, and they returned to their native Denmark.
In April of this year, the Danish Royal House noted that Prince Christian would begin attending Herlufsholm from the fall 2021 term. In an interview, Crown Princess Mary supported her eldest son’s decision, saying, “We support his choice of high school.”
Prince Christian’s cousin, Prince Nikolai, also attended Herlufsholm for tenth grade and continued on with his secondary education at the institution.
