Prince Christian has private birthday celebration ahead of important year

Prince Christian of Denmark celebrated his 17th birthday privately with his family on 15 October.

This is the last birthday for the future monarch before he becomes an adult and is able to begin assuming royal roles. His parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, have not said what their son’s future plans are.

It’s thought the Prince will attend university or undergo military training in preparation for his future role – something his father did before him. The Crown Prince went a step above most heirs to the throne and became a member of the Frogman Corps in Denmark; this is a special operations force similar to that of the US Navy Seals.

For his 17th birthday, the Danish Royal House released a new black and white photo of Prince Christian to celebrate his special day. The photograph was taken by one of Christian’s friends recently.

Prince Christian will be the latest in his generation of heirs to the throne to come of age after Belgium’s Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, the Netherland’s Princess Amalia and Norway’s Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

Plans for his 18th birthday will be announced later in 2023, but if his European counterparts’ ceremonies are anything to go by, there will be several celebrations in Denmark in October 2023.
