Members of the Danish Royal Family to receive special medals to mark Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee

Only to be used in conjunction with Jubilee stories

To celebrate Queen Margrethe II of Denmark’s Golden Jubilee, members of the Danish Royal Family and the Royal Court have received a commemorative medal. Formally, it is known as the Medal of Remembrance on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 50th Government Anniversary.

The medal is made of gilded silver with a crown, is embossed on the front with a full-length portrait of the Queen surrounded by the three silver lions from Rosenborg Castle and the inscription ‘MARGRETHE II THE QUEEN OF DENMARK.’

The back of the medal features The Queen’s crowned monogram surrounded by the Order chains of the Order of the Dannebrog and the Elephant Order and with the inscription ‘14. JANUARY 1972 – 14. JANUARY 2022.’

The medal will be worn similarly to other medals; it will be worn in the cross ribbons of the Order of the Elephant, a Danish order of chivalry established in the late seventeenth century.

In 1972, Margrethe ascended the throne on the death of her father, King Frederick IX. Her Golden Jubilee has been marked with a family dinner and a visit to her parents’ graves. Larger celebrations have been planned, but have been postponed to September 2022 due to the global health crisis.

Royals from around the world have been sending in their messages of congratulations to ‘Aunt Daisy’. Queen Elizabeth II also sent a private message of congratulations to Margrethe; both Queens are celebrating notable Jubilees this year.
