King Frederik and Queen Mary prepare for a week aboard the Dannebrog

King Frederik and Queen Mary will set sail for their annual summer tour aboard the Danneborg this week, visiting the municipalities of Frederikshavn, Thisted, Læsø, and Samsø. Here’s everything you need to know!

FREDERIKSHAVN MUNICIPALITY – AUGUST 25

On Monday morning, King Frederik and Queen Mary will arrive at Sæby Harbour for their day in Frederikshavn Municipality. Following a welcoming ceremony after they dock at the harbour, the royal couple will attend an official service at Sæby Church, where they will meet with municipality officials.

After this, King Frederik and Queen Mary will pay a visit to the Sæby Glass Blowing Mill, where they’ll see a demonstration and learn more about the glass blowing history of the town. From there, they’ll take a walk through the Old Town beginning at the city hall and stopping at Adda Ravnkilde’s house—one of the first women to champion women’s rights in Denmark and the right to be educated—and ending at the Clasens Have, a garden renowned amongst the artist community.

King Frederik and Queen Mary will attend a luncheon at the Forest House in Bangsboskoven and then visit with the junior rangers at Råbjerg Mile, where they’ll learn about their activities and take part in a nature walk.

The afternoon will be spent at Anchers Hus in Skagen and visiting Grenen, the northernmost point of Denmark, where they’ll learn about the natural history of the area.

In the evening, King Frederik and Queen Mary will host a reception aboard the Danneborg.

THISTED MUNICIPALITY – AUGUST 26

On Tuesday, King Frederik and Queen Mary will arrive at Hanstholm Harbour in Thisted municipality, where, after a welcome ceremony at the dock, they will take a carriage ride through the town to the City Hall for an official welcome ceremony.

Afterwards, the royal couple will visit the Nature Village, a project in which the community is “transforming the area around Doverodde Købmandsgård into an activity-driven village with a focus on nature education, outdoor life and community,” according to the Danish Royal Court. They’ll have lunch there, and take a tour of the area before learning from the experts how to handle and prepare pheasants for meals.

King Frederik and Queen Mary will then pay a visit to Surf & Work in Vorupør, which is a community that houses self-employed people who believe in a balanced life.

Their last engagement of the day will be a visit to the Landing Site in Vorupør, which is called ‘Cold Hawaii’ for its dedication to fishing and water sports and continuing the traditions of the land.

In the evening, King Frederik and Queen Mary will host a reception aboard the Danneborg.

LÆSØ MUNICIPALITY – AUGUST 27

On Wednesday, King Frederik and Queen Mary will sail into Østerby Harbour in Læsø municipality, with a welcoming ceremony taking place at a tent directly on the harbour.

From there, King Frederik and Queen Mary will visit Læsø Saltworks to learn more about salt production, meet students learning the ways of the industry, and hear more about the history of saltworking in Læsø.

The royal couple will lunch and tour the Rønnerne, a nature preserve and safari area for marsh and mudflat animals and plants. Afterwards, they’ll visit the Læsø Museum Farm before returning to the Danneborg for an afternoon tea party aboard the ship.

SAMSØ MUNICIPALITY – AUGUST 28

On the final day of their summer tour, King Frederik and Queen Mary will arrive at the Kolby Kås Harbour, where they’ll be welcomed before departing via carriage to Tranebjerg for an official welcome ceremony at Anton Rosens Hus and Anton Rosens Plads.

The royal couple will then visit ExamVision, a magnifying glass production company for dentists and doctors around the world. They’ll receive a tour of the facilities and learn more about the production of the magnifying glasses.

Afterwards, King Frederik and Queen Mary will visit Tranebjerg Church before attending a lunch at Brundby Rockhotel, a venue that hosts concerts in the area.

In the afternoon, the royal couple will hear about the municipality’s green plan at Brundby Stubmølle, a plan for “sustainable use of Samsø’s areas with a holistic view of nature, agriculture and development,” according to the Danish Royal Court.

Their final engagement in the municipality will be a visit to Nordby, to tour the clock tower and walk to the street pond, where they’ll engage with local food producers.

In the evening, King Frederik and Queen Mary will host a reception aboard the Danneborg in Kolby Kås Harbour as the summer tour ends.
