Crown Princess Mary’s birthday celebrations conclude with party and special TV programme

Denmark concluded the celebrations for Crown Princess Mary’s 50th birthday with a “wild” evening celebration held at Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal in Copenhagen Airport.

The event was broadcast live by TV2, a Danish TV station, and featured music and speeches from people who have worked closely with the future Queen in her many years as a royal.

There were lots of surprises during the evening, including all four of Mary and Frederik’s children appearing in the documentary, describing their mum’s work and poking fun at her Australian accent making its way even into Danish.

But it was the tribute to the Crown Princess’s work that touched many hearts. In their respective interviews, all four children spoke highly of their mum’s work ethic, saying that she makes sure that “everything is done thoroughly. Everything has to be perfect”, said Princess Isabella.

In another part of the documentary, Crown Princess Mary got teary-eyed as she was shown her church entrance on her wedding day, the day that officially made her a Danish Princess.

The evening saw the presence of family and friends, with Queen Margarethe, Prince Joachim and birthday girl Princess Marie all making an appearance.

Prince Joachim’s wife seemed more than happy to let her sister-in-law take the spotlight, and all guests seem to have enjoyed the celebration, despite the restrictions that were put in place for health concerns.

Even Prince Christian made his way back to Copenhagen for the festivities, after missing the opening of the exhibition “HRH Crown Princess Mary 1972-2022” because he was still at school, about 80km away.

This was the perfect way to conclude the celebration of the future Queen’s half-century birthday, with the whole of Denmark being able to participate in the festivities and the joy.

Now the entire Royal family will get to enjoy a two-week winter break, during which Princess Benedikte will be made regent, before going back to work.
