Crown Princess Mary to address key global issues in June fashion summit speech

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will deliver the keynote address on the Copenhagen leg of the Global Fashion Summit, scheduled at the beginning of June in the Danish capital.

Her speech will focus on the central theme selected for this year, “Alliances for a new era,” which implies sustainability and gender equality, two of the Crown Princess’s topics of interest.

The Global Fashion Summit: Copenhagen Edition will take place from Tuesday, 7 through Wednesday, 8 June 2022, at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen, one of the most suggestive surroundings for such an event.

Formerly known as the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, the Crown Princess has been its patron since 2009 and has pushed to make fashion more involved in global issues like sustainability and gender equality.

This has led the organisation to create two key partnerships ahead of the summit: one with the Financial Times and one with the Secretariat of the United Nations’ Climate Change division.

These two partnerships will be key to “elevate awareness about the urgent environmental and social issues in the fashion industry and mobilise leaders across the world to drive impact,” according to Global Fashion Agenda, the summit’s organiser company.

All these topics are covered by Crown Princess Mary in other of her patronages, especially the empowerment of women and girls, both in their mental and physical health, but also in fighting for equality in the workplace or against domestic violence and abuse.

Her Royal Highness is also President of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Denmark, a role that is key in highlighting her commitment to the environment and sustainability as the only route to achieving peaceful coexisting of humans on the planet.
