Crown Prince Frederik announces new environmentally friendly medal for Royal Run

One of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark’s many projects is the “Royal Run.” The Royal Run is more than just a running race as it is a chance for the Danish Crown Prince to meet with the Danish people.

When this year’s Royal Run participants finish on 6 June, everyone will receive a very special medal, as visible proof of what they have been involved in, which His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has helped to select. The medal is made of recycled acrylic sheets and is carried in a medal ribbon of recycled plastic from plastic bottles. As such, this new medal has been produced in a new and sustainable way for 2022.

The Royal Run Medal was also a focus point when the Crown Prince visited “Værkstedet Elmegade” (a protected workshop) on 15 March. There, they help to collect and pack the more than 90,000 Royal Run medals.

On a daily basis, the workshop employs about 30 citizens who cannot have a job under normal circumstances, whether that be due to reduced physical or mental functional abilities or social problems. The Crown Prince even sat at the sewing machine and put together a Royal Run Medal during his visit.

The Royal Run takes this year place in Aalborg, Aarhus, Kolding, Næstved and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg in Denmark on 6 June; it will also take place on the island of Bornholm, but there will not be royal participation. So far, more than 62,000 people have signed up for the Royal Run in the six host cities.

As always, the Danish Crown Prince will also participate. However, which city the Crown Prince will run in has not yet been announced, but the Danish Royal Court did reveal that all cities except Bornholm would receive a visit from a member of the Danish Royal Family.
