Crown Prince Christian’s New Year’s first

It was a royal first for Crown Prince Christian on the first evening of 2025: the young royal attended his first ever New Year’s Levee.

Hosted at Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg, the traditional New Year Levee is hosted by the monarch for Denmark’s government leaders. This year marked the first time King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted the event—Queen Margrethe, who also attended this year, abdicated on 14 January last year.

Fresh from a three-month stint in East Africa, the future king of Denmark joined in with his immediate family for one of the glitziest nights on the royal calendar. Also in attendance were Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte.

Crown Prince Christian arrived wearing the collar and badge of the Order of the Elephant—an 18th birthday gift from his grandmother in 2023—and a tuxedo.

In February, Crown Prince Christian will begin military training with the Gardehusarregimentet (the Guard Hussar Regiment) in Slagelse.
