The Crown Prince of Denmark has reported for duty at the start of military service.
Crown Prince Christian, 19, checked in to Slagelse Barracks where he will spend four months training with the Hussar Guard Regiment.
Christian smiled for the photographers waiting for him before presenting his papers.
He then disappeared inside the barracks to begin training as a conscript.
The heir to the Danish throne arrived alone for his first day. His father, King Frederik X, was later seen at a special reception to congratulate Denmark’s men’s handball team who have become world champions. Queen Mary had no public engagements on the day her eldest child began military service.
The Danish monarch is head of the country’s Armed Forces although the role is largely ceremonial. Therefore, a stint in the military is a must for the young Crown Prince who is in line, one day, to be king.
