Luxembourg

A 21st century way of marking a royal jubilee and you need earbuds

Grab your earbuds and get ready for a new playlist to drop: the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg have shared Spotify playlists to celebrate their Silver Jubilee!

While it has been announced that Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume will be inheriting the title in October 2025 when Henri abdicates, Henri is celebrating his Silver Jubilee of 25 years on the Luxembourgish throne this year. And that includes Spotify playlists to get everyone in the mood.

The Grand Duke’s playlist largely features classical music, including pieces from Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, and Schubert. For a bit of a diversion, His Royal Highness has also included a piece from the Pirates of the Caribbean score. And for those who like to dance, both “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” and “Dancing Queen” from ABBA make an appearance.

We also have a playlist from Grand Duchess Maria Teresa to enjoy. She is decidedly more modern in her music tastes, with the playlist kicking off with “Shape of You” from British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” and Taylor Swift’s “This Love” also make appearances, while the playlist finishes up with the favourite “Africa” from Toto.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg served as Regent for his father from 4 March 1998 to 7 October 2000. His father then abdicated, with Henri taking up the title of Grand Duke of Luxembourg. His reign will come to an end four days shy of his actual anniversary – he steps aside on October 3rd 2025.
