Crown Princess Mary’s wish for Amalienborg fulfilled

Crown Princess Mary has personally seen to the installation of a defibrillator outside her residence near Amalienborg.

The Crown Princess, who is patron of Denmark’s Heart Association, requested that the defibrillator be installed at the entrance to Amaliehaven near Amalienborg as a part of the Association’s National Distribution campaign, which raised money to distribute and set up over 400 defibrillators across the country.

“Every second counts at a cardiac arrest, and therefore it is crucial that there is a defibrillator close by and available around the clock,” said the Heart Association’s CEO, Anne Kaltoft, in a press release.

“Therefore, we are very grateful that the Heart Association’s patron…has helped to ensure a 24-hour pacemaker in the area around Amalienborg and Amaliehaven, and that she so clearly supports our work to spread the knowledge of resuscitation.”

Crown Princess Mary posed for a picture with the new defibrillator in a photo that was shared on the Royal House website and social media accounts. The Royal House noted, “it was Her Royal Highness’ wish that the defibrillator be set up in a place in Copenhagen where many people move.

“The Heart Association, therefore, investigated a possible location and determined the location at the entrance to Amaliehaven, where there are usually many people, including tourists from home and abroad.”

According to the Royal House, on average each day, 14 people in Denmark experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. A defibrillator available within the first three-to-five minutes can be a gamechanger in terms of saving a life.

The new defibrillator is inside a climate cabinet and will be monitored 24 hours a day to ensure that a response in case of technical errors is always close by. The Heart Association will be responsible for its upkeep.

The Heart Association was founded in 1962 and has become one of the world’s biggest research arm into heart disease.
