Crown Princess Mary opens new UN exhibit

Crown Princess Mary has officially opened a new UN exhibition, 2030 NOW, to highlight the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, in Sønderborg.

The exhibit aims to show “what kind of world the UN’s 17 global goals can lead to find we each, and together, make an effort to make them come true,” according to the 2030 NOW website.

Seventeen artists from across the Nordic countries were invited to participate in 2030 NOW, including Michael Kvium, Gamborg Magnussen, Jeppe Hein, HuskMitNavn, Mie Olise, Tue Greenfort, Olafur Eliasson, Peter Ravn, Amalie Jacobsen, Julie Edel Hardenberg, Maj D, John Kørner, Superflex, Rune Bosse, Larissa Sansour, Hesselholdt and Mejvang.

2030 NOW has been installed in various cities around Denmark this year, including in Copenhagen, Aarhus, now Sønderborg, and ending in Aalborg in November.

During her visit, Corwn Princess Mary was presented with a bouquet made of sustainable materials from students at the Preparatory Primary School in Sønderborg. She also received a cabbage head from Gamborg / Magnussen whose work, Almindelige Kål (in English: Common Cabbage) is included in the 2030 NOW exhibit to highlight the goal of reducing hunger.

2030 NOW is on display in Sønderborg at the Nørrebro 1 skating arena through to 2 October. It opens in Aalborg on 9 October and runs through to 6 November.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals include the eradication of poverty and hunger; access to education, healthcare, clean water; gender equality and access to justice; clean energy, infrastructure innovations; sustainability in cities and towns; climate action and clean oceans; and supporting life on land and creating partnerships to ensure continued success of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Crown Princess Mary is one of many royals who support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Queen Mathilde of the Belgians and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden are also involved. The Danish Crown Princess has been involved with the UN’s goals since 2015.
