Crown Princess Mary discusses gender diversity in UN roundtable for International Women’s Day

Crown Princess Mary took part in a roundtable on gender diversity in business to mark International Women’s Day. 

Her Royal Highness took part in the event held at the UN City in Copenhagen, a structure that houses 17 representations of UN agencies, as well as 22 campuses for students. 

The roundtable was organised jointly by UN Women and Boston Consulting Group. The first is the branch of the United Nations that works on improving equality for women and granting them access to services to empower them, from specialised medical attention to education and job training specifically designed to help them achieve their career goals. 

The second is a multinational management firm, with offices in 50 countries. Boston Consulting Group (or BCG) is considered one of the “Big Three” firms in the global consulting management scenario. 

The roundtable was titled “Gender Diversity” and was focused on the promotion of gender diversity in Danish businesses and organisations through knowledge sharing and the proposition of new solutions to solve the issue. 

Since the beginning of women’s presence in the workforce, they have encountered more obstacles and a less friendly environment. The prospect of maternity is enough to scare employers away, and salaries often end up being much lower than male counterparts. 

That is why the presence of a big firm like Boston Consulting Group is so crucial – to enhance the idea that hiring women in key places of any business should be as easy as hiring a man. 

Crown Princess Mary has long been involved with the issues of gender equality in the workplace. Since almost the beginning of her role in the Danish Royal Family, she has tackled gender equality from many angles. 

Gender diversity in business is one of the main components of her work, coupled with equal access to medical care and education.
