Queen Mathilde injures her left thumb

During a visit to a pharmaceutical company on Tuesday, Queen Mathilde of Belgium was seen sporting a wrist brace on her left hand.

When asked for comment, a Palace spokesperson said that Her Majesty hurt her left thumb in a wrong move, and that the injury is not serious.

Queen Mathilde has been seen injured before; famously, in 2015 she had to use crutches for a while after hurting her knee in a skiing accident.

Injuries have never slowed Queen Mathilde down, who, after the 2015 accident, has refused to cancel her agenda and has carried out all the engagements she had planned. In one of them, she even revealed that, because of her knee brace, her children had nicknamed her “Mummy Robocop” after the movie character of the same name.

The discovery was made during a visit to the Tilman pharmaceutical complex, in which a roundtable was held. The discussion centered around new instruments presented to help the application of the Sustainable Development Guidelines by the United Nations.

The roundtable saw both private and public sector actors reunite to discuss how to best promote sustainable development inside enterprises and businesses, and how several pieces of the production chain would have to be altered in order to achieve sustainable development goals. The experts also discussed the use of newly developed technologies to help in this journey.

Tilman, the company hosting the roundtable, is a family run business that produces herbal medicines.

Queen Mathilde has long been involved in promoting United Nation initiatives in Belgian businesses; in particular, she is dedicated to promoting small businesses, advancing medical care and ending women marginalisation.

She also shares an interest in microcredit with her Royal neighbour, Queen Màxima of the Netherlands.
