Belgium’s king and queen cancel engagements after family member contracts Covid

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians have cancelled their forthcoming engagements after an unnamed member of their family tested positive for coronavirus.

The king and queen will limit all their contacts in the coming days as a precaution after a ”younger” member of their family was found to have Covid.

Philippe and Mathilde have taken PCR tests which have come back negative but will remain in isolation as a precuation.

It’s not been announced which member of the royal family has the virus although royal officials said it was one of the ”younger children”. Philippe and Mathilde are parents to Princess Elisabeth, 19, Prince Gabriel, 18, Prince Emmanuel, 15, and Princess Eleonore, 13. No details were given, either, on the state of health of the member of the family who has contracted Covid.

All the engagements scheduled for Philippe and Mathilde, up to and including Monday September 6th, have been cancelled.
