A future queen called Elisabeth pays tribute to “inspiration” Queen Elizabeth

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium made a surprise visit to the residence of the UK Ambassador to Belgium to sign the book of condolences in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duchess of Brabant was dressed sombrely in black and her hair was up in an intricate low bun, which exposed another sweet tribute to the British Royals: the earrings, which she borrowed from her mum, were almost identical to the pearl button-style pieces that Her Late Majesty wore almost on a daily basis.

Princess Elisabeth paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth’s legacy in her message, which, in its entirety, says: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been a role model and a source of inspiration for many of us, young and old. I join the millions around the world in mourning an extraordinary personality, whose exemplarity has had a profound impact on younger generations. May her soul rest in peace. On behalf of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, I wish to express our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,

Elisabeth”

The young heir to the Belgian throne has had increasingly close ties to the United Kingdom; five years ago, she moved to Wales, where she attended UW Atlantic College to complete her high school education. After spending a year in Belgium to carry out a part of her military training, the Princess moved back to the United Kingdom in August of 2021. She is currently a student of History and Politics at Lincoln College, Oxford University.

Despite still being a full time student, Princess Elisabeth has increasingly been undertaking more engagements in her role as a member of the Royal Family. It is not clear whether she will be taking part in the State funeral next Monday, although it has been confirmed that her parents, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, will be traveling to London to salute the Queen for the last time.
