One million Instagram followers for Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan has acquired over one million Instagram followers to his official account.

The 22-year-old royal created his account in January 2014 to showcase causes close to his heart. He also posts private photos from his time with family. Just last week he posted a black and white image of him greeting his father at Sandhurst when King Abdullah and Queen Rania were in the United Kingdom visiting him. As of today, the Crown Prince has 285 photos posted to his account. Most of his images attract tens of thousands of likes from his followers.

Like his mother, Queen Rania, who is highly active on social media, Hussein utilises his account to highlight his causes and his country. Most of his posts include the hashtag #OurJordan. His Royal Highness is currently in training at the Sandhurst Academy in the United Kingdom alongside Luxembourg’s Prince Sébastien.

Just last year he graduated from Georgetown University in the United States with a degree in International History. His younger sister, Her Royal Highness Princess Iman is currently studying there.

He was born on 28 June 1994 in Amman. At this time, his father had not yet taken the throne. King Abdullah II would take the throne when his son was not yet five. Hussein was not named heir apparent until 2004 when his father stripped his (the King’s) younger brother Prince Hamzah of his heir apparent status. According to the Jordanian constitution, Hussein was Crown Prince of Jordan as soon as his uncle’s title and status were revoked. However, King Abdullah did not bestow the crown prince title on him until his father issued a royal decree in 2009 immediately naming him as Crown Prince of Jordan.

Crown Prince Hussein has three siblings: Princess Iman, Princess Salma and Prince Hashem.
