Night has now fallen on London on May 5th 2023 and all eyes turn to Westminster Abbey where, in just a few hours time, King Charles III will be crowned.
It will be the fortieth Coronation of a Monarch at the Abbey since 1066.
This moment of royal history begins at 11am when His Majesty arrives at the West Door of Westminster Abbey with Queen Camilla. However, Their Majesties will already have followed another historic path as they will have arrived at the church in The King’s Procession which will see them cheered through the streets of the capital in a spectacular parade taking around half an hour.
Almost as soon as he has entered the ancient building, King Charles III will do something none of his predecessors have done and pledge, publicly, to serve the people.
The Coronation service will then unfold, combining ancient traditions with a modern liturgy written specially for this ceremony.
The service culminates in the moment of Coronation when St. Edward’s Crown is placed on the head of King Charles III.
The Coronation Procession will follow the service with the newly crowned King Charles and Queen Camilla travelling through London in the Gold State Coach.
It is, indeed, a moment of history.
