New episode of The Royal Beat discusses “catastrophic” damage to the monarchy by Prince Andrew

The upcoming Platinum Jubilee promises to be the royal event of a lifetime, but the disastrous possibility of Prince Andrew trying to make a comeback could threaten the monarchy, said the Daily Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers in a new episode of The Royal Beat.

The expert panel on the royal news programme, shown exclusively on streaming service True Royalty TV, dove into what’s ahead for 2022 — including the latest updates in Prince Andrew’s legal battle. Author and royal expert Robert Jobson discussed the possibility of Prince Andrew being indefinitely unable to leave the United Kingdom.

“The evidence that would come out if it goes to trial will be detailed,” he told the programme. “It may then stir the FBI and authorities to say, ‘we now no longer want to talk to you as a witness, we want to speak to you as a perpetrator of a crime’, and that means he can practically never leave these shores in fear of being extradited.”

Of course, the Platinum Jubilee raises another issue with The Queen’s alleged favourite child. The panel chatted about plans for the big celebrations for the Jubilee Year, which starts in February, and whether or not Prince Andrew would be attending.

Although Andrew would likely be keen to participate in his mother’s Jubilee year, Myers tells The Royal Beat: “The reputational damage to the monarchy, forget him [Prince Andrew] he is finished, he will never come back. He is probably the only person on the planet that thinks he has a chance of coming back. But the rest of the family wouldn’t want him anywhere near it. The reputational damage to the monarchy on the Platinum Jubilee year could be absolutely catastrophic.”

In more upbeat news, the panel discussed Prince Harry and the Duke of Kent’s upcoming memoirs and the Duchess of Cambridge’s upcoming 40th birthday, including plans for a joint party with Prince William this summer.

Ingrid Seward, Editor in Chief of Majesty Magazine, said, “I think it will be low key this weekend, and then later in the year – probably after the Platinum Jubilee celebrations are over – she and William, whose birthday is on June 21st, will have a joint party and really celebrate then.”

Seward also compared the Duchess of Cambridge with Diana, Princess of Wales, telling the programme that the duchess “has suddenly become a lot more like Diana. She chats away, really chatting to people and engaging with them in a personal way, telling little bits about herself.”
