New picture released ahead of Crown Prince of Bhutan’s sixth birthday

A new photo has been released by the Royal Office for Media ahead of the Crown Prince of Bhutan’s sixth birthday on 5 February.

Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel, or the Dragon Prince, is seen sitting on a bed in a black and white image in a historical building in December 2021.

The photo was taken during a trip with his mother and younger brother, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck, to Trongsa Dzong in December while the trio visited Queen Jetsu Pema’s ancestral home in Trongsa.

The Trongsa Dzong is the district administration headquarters and is a historic building where Desi Jigme Namgyel – the father of the first King of Bhutan – lived. He resided there during his time as the Trongsa Penlop and later Druk Desi.

The bed in which the Crown Prince sits once belonged to Desi Jigme Namgyel.

The new image also features on Yellow Bhutan’s February desktop calendar. The calendars are available for desktops, tablets and phones.

The Bhutanese Royal Family regularly feature on Yellow Bhutan’s free calendar.

Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel is the elder child of King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan. He has been the heir apparent since his birth in 2016. He has one younger brother, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck, who was born in March 2020.

His Royal Highness is not the only royal birthday in his family this month. The King will mark his 42nd birthday on 21 February.
