Grandchildren of monarchs: King Jigme Singye Wangchuck

With four wives and ten children, the King Father of Bhutan has several grandchildren – including the two sons of Bhutan’s current monarch, King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck. Let’s take a look at the King Father’s 14 grandchildren.

The King Father’s most two well-known grandchildren are the sons of his successor and eldest son.

Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel

Born on 5 February 2016, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck is the elder son of King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema. He will one day become the sixth Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) of Bhutan. He regularly accompanies his parents on trips around the country and abroad and at official events.

Prince Ugyen Wangchuck

Born as the second son of the King and Queen, Prince Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck was born on 19 March 2020; he is second in line to the throne. His parents announced that he would go by the name Prince Ugyen Wangchuck after revealing his full name in June 2020.

Children of Princess Sonam Dechen Wangchuck

Princess Sonam Dechen Wangchuck has two children through her marriage to Phub W. Dorji: Jigje Singye Wangchuck, 11, and Jigme Jigten Wangchuck, 7. Jigje was born on 3 December 2009, and Jigme was born on 23 August 2013.

Children of Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck

Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck is married to Sangay Wangchuck, and they have two sons: 14-year-old Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck (b. 30 August 2006 in Thailand) and Jamyang Singye Wangchuck (b. 2 December 2009). Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck is the King Father’s eldest grandson and grandchild.

Children of Princess Kesang Choden Wangchuck

Princess Kesang Choden Wangchuck has three children with her husband, Palden Yoser Thinley. They have two sons and a daughter; their first child is Jamgyel Singye Wangchuck, and he was followed by another son, Ugyen Junay Wangchuck. Their only daughter, Tshering Tshoyang Wangchuck, was born in January 2019.

Children of Princess Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck 

Princess Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck and her husband, Tandin Namgyel, have three children – one daughter and two sons. Their eldest child is their daughter, Dechan Yuidem Yangzom, who was the youngest author in Bhutan at age 10 in 2017. Yuidem was followed by two brothers, Ugyen Dorji Wangchuck and Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Child of Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck

Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck only has one child with his wife, Yeatso Lhamo (the elder sister of Queen Jetsun Pema). Their daughter, Decho Pema Wangchuck, was born in 2014. She shares her middle name with her maternal aunt, the Queen.
