British Royals

You can now buy one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite cars

A Range Rover driven by Queen Elizabeth II has gone on sale for £125,000, offering royal enthusiasts the chance to own a vehicle personally used by Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

The 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE Station Wagon was supplied new to the late Queen through Land Rover Special Vehicles and is believed to be the only Tonga Green 3.6 TDV8 diesel L322 built specifically for Her Majesty.

Unlike many of the Royal Family’s official Range Rovers, which were petrol-powered, this example features a diesel engine and a number of bespoke modifications commissioned for the late monarch.

The vehicle is accompanied by photographs showing Queen Elizabeth II behind the wheel, including at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and on the Sandringham Estate.

Those images, together with its distinctive interior trim and unique seat piping, have helped confirm its royal provenance.

The Range Rover also retains several features associated with royal service, including mounting points for grab handles designed to make it easier for passengers to enter and leave the rear seats, along with a factory-fitted dog guard—an appropriate addition given the late Queen’s lifelong love of dogs.

Adding another intriguing twist, the vehicle shares an unusually close connection with another famous Range Rover.

It was registered on exactly the same day as the Range Rover driven by Jeremy Clarkson in Clarkson’s Farm, with the two vehicles’ chassis numbers separated by just ten digits and their registrations differing by only two letters.

Following its retirement from royal duties, the vehicle entered private ownership. Around a decade ago it was recorded as a Category D insurance loss, reportedly following a minor interior electrical fault.

Specialist dealer PH Automotive, which is selling the vehicle, says it has since undergone extensive maintenance, including the replacement of both turbochargers, a full engine and gearbox service, new filters, fresh differential oils, replacement brake discs and pads, new boost pipes and a set of brand-new Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres.

The Range Rover has covered 127,201 miles and is available to view strictly by appointment.

In the sales listing, PH Automotive describes the vehicle as “one of the most important ‘modern era’ Range Rovers”, arguing that its documented association with Queen Elizabeth II gives it enduring historical significance that extends far beyond its connection to television or celebrity ownership.
