King Charles sends heartfelt message to Prince Albert as Monaco marks a 20-year reign milestone

King Charles and Queen Camilla have extended their congratulations to Prince Albert II and the people of Monaco on the occasion of the principality’s National Day.

In a formal statement, the King said: “Your Serene Highness, My wife and I are delighted to send Your Highness and the people of the Principality of Monaco our warmest congratulations on the auspicious occasion of your National Day.

“I am so pleased that our countries share such strong ties, and I look forward to strengthening further our friendship.

“It is my hope and strong ambition that our nations can collaborate to make a positive impact on climate change and environmental issues, which affect us all globally.

“My wife and I have great pleasure in conveying our best wishes to you and to all Monegasque people in the year ahead.”

The message comes as Monaco celebrated its National Day on 19 November, a date traditionally linked to the feast day of St. Rainier, the prince after whom Monaco’s late ruler, Prince Rainier III, was named. The event this year marked a particularly poignant occasion, commemorating 20 years since Prince Albert II succeeded his father.

Princess Charlene joined her husband for the annual Te Deum at Monaco Cathedral, beginning the day’s festivities alongside Prince Albert’s sisters, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie. The three siblings had come together the evening before for a ceremony in which Princess Stephanie was appointed a Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit for her support of the arts, particularly the circus. Princess Charlene returned for the main National Day celebrations, arriving in a white trouser suit completed with a beret-style hat and veil, maintaining her reputation as one of Monaco’s most influential style figures.

It is customary for the royal twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, to accompany their parents for parts of the celebrations, reflecting the principality’s emphasis on introducing the next generation to official duties from an early age.

King Charles’ message underscores the enduring diplomatic and cultural ties between the United Kingdom and Monaco, while also highlighting shared commitments to environmental initiatives and cooperation on global issues.
