A Range Rover once owned and driven by Queen Elizabeth II has been sold at auction for £175,000 — more than double its estimated value.

The 2006 model, a third-generation V8 Supercharged Range Rover, was delivered to the late monarch by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations and remained in royal use between 2006 and 2008. It was sold during the 2025 Silverstone Festival by Iconic Auctioneers, with pre-sale estimates placing its likely value between £50,000 and £70,000.

Modifications to the vehicle reflect its former royal role, including discreet security and communications enhancements, bespoke grab handles to aid the Queen’s ingress and egress, and a dog guard – a nod to her well-known affection for her corgis. The SUV was frequently seen in use around Windsor Castle and appeared at public events such as the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2007.

Finished in Tonga Green — a traditional shade associated with the Royal Household — and trimmed with Oxford Sand leather and burr walnut, the vehicle has covered nearly 120,000 miles. Despite its age and mileage, its condition and provenance contributed significantly to the final hammer price.

Rob Hubbard, Managing Director and Principal Auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, described the sale as a rare moment for collectors.

He said: “Vehicles with this level of historical connection very seldom come to market,” he said. “This particular Range Rover offers a unique blend of British automotive engineering and royal heritage.”

Equipped with a 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine derived from Jaguar, the vehicle is thought to be the only one of its specification owned by the Royal Family.
