Will Taylor Swift welcome special royal friends to her fairytale wedding?

Taylor Swift

When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday afternoon, it frankly broke the internet.

Their joint Instagram post—“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married”—is sitting at 18 million likes and counting.

Their wedding is destined to be the biggest pop culture wedding of the century, and we’re wondering: could there be royalty amongst the guests?

Because Taylor Swift has a longstanding friendship with Prince William that dates back over a decade.

In 2013, she was one of the special guests at Centrepoint’s Winter Whites gala at Kensington Palace. Those in attendance were there to support one of William’s oldest patronages, and the pair had a chance to meet before the main event. Catherine was unable to attend, as she was home with Prince George, then only four months old.

The songstress performed her own music, telling those gathered that, “It is very nice to meet you, especially under these circumstances. It is my first time playing at Kensington Palace, or any other palace for that matter.

“I have to thank you, Prince William, for having me. It’s amazing. To call attention to this age group especially, teens and young adults. It is hard enough being in your late teens to early twenties, then the fact that so many kids have to deal with so much more.”

Taylor and William then hopped on stage for an impromptu duet with Jon Bon Jovi, joining the rock star for a rendition of his ‘80s hit ‘Livin’ On a Prayer’ as he strummed along on guitar.

She later told reporters that she was happy to have met William, saying, “I was really happy he was funny.”

William, meanwhile, cringes at the memory. In 2021, during a walking interview for Apple’s Time to Walk podcast, he revealed that he didn’t know what made him say yes to going up and singing with Taylor and Bon Jovi. “I don’t understand why I gave in.”

He continued: “But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”

Just over a decade later, Taylor and William would reunite after she brought the record-breaking Eras Tour to London for a series of concerts over the summer. Including one at Wembley Stadium on William’s birthday.

Fans spotted William and his two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, dancing along to the concert from a private box, joined by Mike and Zara Tindall. Catherine, again, was not in attendance as she was privately receiving chemotherapy treatments.

After the show, Taylor posted a selfie she’d taken with William, George, Charlotte, and her now-fiancé Travis Kelce with the caption: “Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start 🇬🇧🇺🇸🤝”

The Wales’s social media team shared their own photo of Taylor with the royals, captioning it: “Thank you @taylorswift for a great evening!”

On the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis and his brother Jason, they reminisced about meeting William and his children. Jason said: “I gotta say, Prince William was fantastic, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte. Prince George was great too. She was so f****** adorable. Like, I cannot…”

Travis added: “She was a superstar.” Of William, he said that he was the ‘coolest mother******’ and that he wasn’t sure how to greet the future king.

“They were an absolute delight to meet. Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to, like, bow to them, curtsy, just be an American idiot and shake their hand,” Travis said, adding that he wanted to be respectful, especially given that they were in London.

He also teased Jason for being the most respectful he’d ever seen him. “You put your beer, like, 10 feet away from you,” he teased.

When Taylor made a surprise appearance on their podcast earlier this month to announce her forthcoming studio album, she brought up how torn Jason had been to meet William at the cost of not taking his beer with him.

“I watched him have this moment with his beer where he’s just like, ‘But I want to take it. But I know that I probably should not take it.’”

After Taylor and Travis jointly shared their engagement photos on Instagram, many started checking the likes on the post, and users quickly noticed that William and Catherine were amongst the many who liked the post.
