Princess Charlotte joins her dad on the pitch as England’s Lionesses are crowned champions of Europe

England have been crowned champions of Europe once again after a thrilling 2–1 victory over Spain in the UEFA Women’s Euro Final – and watching proudly from the stands were the Prince of Wales and Princess Charlotte, who led royal cheers for the triumphant Lionesses.

it was a thrilling match that was sealed in the dying stages on on penalties.

The ten-year-old Princess joined her father in Switzerland to see history being made, as the national side fought back from a goal down to clinch victory in front of a capacity crowd.

Princess Charlotte was visibly animated throughout the match, applauding goals and joining in the celebrations at full-time with a beaming Prince William by her side.

William and Charlotte’s presence underlined the continued and growing royal support for women’s sport, particularly from the Wales family, who have been vocal and consistent champions of the Lionesses’ rise on the world stage.

Prince William, who has served as President of the Football Association since 2006, congratulated the team on the pitch after the final whistle.

King Charles sent a message of congratulations to the team.

For Princess Charlotte, the evening marked another proud moment as a young supporter of the national side. In 2022, she became an unexpected poster girl for the Lionesses after appearing in a now-iconic good luck video alongside her father before England’s last Euros final, which they also won.

Also in attendance were Spanish royals Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, who had travelled from Madrid to cheer on La Roja.

Tonight’s match not only cemented the Lionesses’ status as the leading force in women’s football, but also reinforced the deepening connection between the royal family and the national game – a relationship that looks set to continue through the next generation. As Princess Charlotte joined the celebrations and shared hugs with players and fans alike, she looked every inch the royal supporter – and perhaps, one day, a royal patron in her own right.
