Princess Charlotte arrives in Switzerland with her dad for joint appearance

Princess Charlotte and her dad, Prince William, hug as they arrive at the finals of the Euros 2025

Princess Charlotte has joined the Prince of Wales in Switzerland to cheer on the Lionesses as they prepare to take on Spain in the UEFA Women’s Euro Final.

The ten-year-old Princess touched down in Basel on the afternoon of the final, and will join her father to watch the match.

The rivalry on the pitch may spill into the royal box, where Spanish royalty will also be present for the clash.

Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, and her younger sister, Infanta Sofia are already confirmed to attend.

The presence of two heirs at the same event marks a rare and symbolic convergence of European royal families in support of women’s football.

Prince William, who has long championed the women’s game, is attending the match in his capacity as President of the Football Association – a role he has held since 2006. A passionate supporter of the sport, the Prince is frequently seen at major football events and is a regular visitor to England training camps, both men’s and women’s, often engaging with players and staff behind the scenes.

This evening’s final is the culmination of a hard-fought tournament for the Lionesses, who have navigated a challenging path through the group and knockout stages.

England’s squad, under the leadership of manager Sarina Wiegman, demonstrated resilience and tactical flair to defeat the Netherlands in a nail-biting semi-final. The match, which saw England come from behind to win 2-1, was hailed as one of the defining moments of the competition.

For Princess Charlotte, this is not the first time she has publicly cheered on the national side. In a widely shared video during the 2022 Euros, she joined her father in wishing the team good luck ahead of their final, which England won. The young royal, said to be an avid football fan, has been encouraged in her sporting interests by both her parents.

Spain’s Princess Leonor, 19, and Infanta Sofia, 18, are also enthusiastic supporters of their national team. Their attendance reflects the significance of the occasion not just as a sporting contest, but as a moment of European pride in the growing success and popularity of the women’s game.

The presence of the next generation of European royals adds a ceremonial note to what promises to be a historic night at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. As both teams take to the pitch, they do so backed by the visible support of their respective nations – and their royal houses.
