Rare public appearance for Princess Michael of Kent

Princess Michael of Kent arrives at Wimbledon on day three of the championships. She is using a walking stick to reach her seat in the royal box.

She was once one of the most talked about members of the Royal Family but in recent years she’s had a much lower profile. However, Wimbledon provided a rare sighting of Princess Michael of Kent who took her seat in the royal box as day three of this year’s championships got under way.

Princess Michael enjoyed a day on Centre Court where she saw defending men’s champion, Carlos Alcarez, cruise to a straight set victory over Britain’s Ollie Tarvet. There was better luck for another British player on Centre Court as Emma Raducanu knocked 2023 champion Marta Vondrousova out in straight sets.

The princess, who turned 80 earlier this year, took a seat in the front row of Centre Court.

She used a stick to walk down the steps of the royal box – last Christmas, she broke her wrists just before the annual Royal Family festive celebration at Buckingham Palace.

Her appearance comes just days after she marked her 47th wedding anniversary with Prince Michael of Kent.

Their union, in 1978, had to be held in Austria as the bride, born Marie-Christine von Reibnitz, was divorced from her first husband. Prince Michael, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, and Marie-Christine were married in a civil ceremony at the Rathaus in Vienna.

The couple have two children. Their son, Lord Frederick Windsor, attended Wimbledon on day two. Their daughter, Lady Gabriella Kingston, attended on day one, sitting with friends in the stands. Lady Gabriella lost her husband, Tom, in 2024.
