This king is about to reveal why he doesn’t wear a crown

King Philippe of the Belgians looks pensive in a birthday portrait

King Philippe of the Belgians celebrated his 65th birthday by offering his fellow citizens the chance to ask him anything they liked. The first set of questions has just been revealed and the king’s first answer was ….oh la, la!

Philippe, who marks 12 years on the throne next month, was sent all kinds of questions on video as part of the celebrations for his milestone birthday.

King Philippe is grilled on some personal issues

Belgium’s royals have now revealed the first set that he will tackle in a social media film that showed Philippe watching them being asked by people around Belgium.

And one of his youngest inquisitors wants to know, quite simply, why he doesn’t wear a crown.

The answer to that is about to be revealed.

Other questions put to the king include what have been his best and worst moments since he took the throne, what job he would have if he wasn’t a reigning monarch and what advice he has for young people who want to make Belgium a better place.

Can a king really have friends?

Things also got deep and interesting when he was asked whether it was possible for someone in his role to really have true friends. No wonder the video finished with King Philippe saying ‘oh la la’.

His answers will be shared soon and we’ll find out why kings, in the 21st century, aren’t walking around with crowns on their heads.
