King Harald of Norway has delivered a rare pre-Christmas broadcast to the nation as the coronavirus crisis deepens across the country.
In Norway, the monarch traditionally delivers a New Years Speech instead of a Christmas speech. However, due to the seriousness of the public health situation, His Majesty has decided to speak to his people ahead of the festivities.
The King said: “Many go into the holidays with disappointment, longing and worrying for the future. I send you all a warm hope that the Christmas holidays must be characterised by warmth and care for each other.”
The 84-year-old monarch added that “It is time again to remember everything that each of us can do.”
His Majesty said: “Make a phone call to someone you know will appreciate it. Send a greeting to someone who needs it. Take a walk with someone you care about.
“We all have the opportunity to make life a little brighter for the people around us.
“My family and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.”
King Harald and Queen Sonja are spending the festive period with Crown Prince Haakon and his family at Skaugum.
