Japan’s Princess Aiko has graduated from high school as the famous Japanese Cherry Blossoms bloomed. The only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended her graduation ceremony at Tokyo’s Gakushuin Girls’ Senior High School over the weekend.
The 18-year-old wore a face mask and her school uniform on Sunday afternoon for the ceremony that had been scaled back due to COVID-19. Parents were allowed to attend, but the Emperor and Empress stayed away. They said in a statement that they were thinking of all those impacted and the difficulties they are facing due to the virus.
Embed from Getty ImagesPrincess Aiko smiled and waved at those assembled who came to see her for her graduation. She posed for photos for the media and answered some questions, as well. Her Imperial Highness said she enjoyed her time in school and had many experiences.
“I’ve experienced a lot and had a very enjoyable and fulfilling school life,” she said.
The Imperial Household Agency said she received her diploma in her classroom after her graduation ceremony.
The royal had not attended school in several weeks as Japan had shut schools due to the coronavirus outbreak.
