Queen Sirkit, The Queen Mother of Thailand, 86, has been released from the hospital where she has been since 21 July. She will turn 87 on Monday.
Her Majesty was at Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok and has now been returned to her home, Chitralada Royal Villa.
King Rama X’s mother had an infection of the respiratory tract and was treated by doctors with antibiotics and close medical care.
The Queen Mother has been in bad health over the past several years. She suffered a stroke in 2012 and has since remained mostly out of the public eye.
Unfortunately, this is not her first stint in the hospital this year. She missed her son’s coronation in May as she was hospitalised with a bladder infection. Her 62-year-old niece, Princess Soamsawali (who is also King Rama X’s ex-wife) has been in the hospital for months after suffering a brain haemorrhage. She was released from Intensive Care (ICU) in March.
Queen Sirikit was the wife of Thailand’s late and beloved monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (or Rama IX) who died on 13 October 2016 at the age of 88.
They married on 28 April 1950 after becoming engaged on 19 July 1949 in Switzerland. Together, they had four children: Princess Ubol Ratana (b. 1951), King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun (b. 1952) Princess Sirindhorn (b. 1955), and Princess Chulabhorn (b. 1957).
