Danish Royal Run to return

The Royal Run in Denmark, set up last year as a celebration of Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday, is to return this year after last year’s success. There were over 70,000 Danes who took part last year in Denmark’s five largest cities.

The Royal Danish House announced yesterday that the Royal Run on 10 June in Aarhus, Aalborg and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. It will also take place on 1 June in the Faroe Islands.

They explained, “Royal Run is not a classic exercise run that prioritises the finishing time. It is possible both to run and to walk all of the distances, and there are special miles for families that want to take the baby carriage along out on the route. Just like last year.”

Crown Prince Frederik released a statement in connection with the Royal Run extending to this year: “I look forward, together with the rest of Denmark, to spending a day characterised by motion. It is my hope that many will again have the desire to challenge themselves and exercise in some beautiful settings all around the country. Last year was a fantastic day. It will make me happy to see a whole lot of returning runners this year – but also new ones who have gotten a taste for it.”

The Crown Prince will run on both 1 June in the Faroe Islands and on 10 June in Denmark, as he did last year.

On 10 June, His Royal Highness will begin his run by taking part in a one-mile trek in Aarhus. He will also run 10 km in Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. In addition, Crown Princess Mary will take part and run 5 km in Aalborg.

The Royal Run will also take place in Rønne on Bornholm on 10 June; however, there will not be any royal participation during this section.
