Nashville, Tennessee, has been enjoying celebrations for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Royal Wedding that took place on 19 May. Hotels in the Country Music Capital, like the Westin, hosted lavish royal related spas in the run-up to the wedding, as well as watch parties on the day (beginning at 6 am local time). Royal Wedding fever did not end on the wedding day for the Tennessee capital.
Last night, during the Country Music Television (CMT) Awards at Bridgestone Arena in downtown, the opening sketch featured a royal wedding parody starring the country music duo Florida Georgia Line. Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, dressed in similar uniforms to what the Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex wore, rode in a horse-drawn carriage (not too uncommon a sight in the city as they are offered to tourists) parodying the coverage of the Royal Wedding.
Other country music stars took part in the beginning sketch. Country music star, Trace Adkins, served as the coachman while the hosts of the CMT Awards, the band Little Big Town (Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook) were the commentators. Blake Shelton portrayed a news anchor, and Darius Rucker was dressed as Queen Elizabeth II. Midlands band members were reporters on the ground. Knoxville, Tennessee, native Kelsea Ballerini acted as a member of one of the many bachelorette parties that are constantly on the street in Music City. Jake Owen, Dustin Lynch, and Jon Pardi were involved, as well, dressing as Nashville bachelorettes on the famous Broadway.
While being driven around Nashville, Hubbard and Kelley remarked, “The commoners love us so!” Hubbard then told his bandmate, “Anybody ever tell you, you look a lot like Prince Harry?” Kelley then remarked back, “Aw man, I get that all the time! But you’re starting to look like Prince William.”
Hubbard then took off his hat to show off a fake prominent bald spot, “Ah, you think?”
