Princess Anne beats William and Catherine to be named Britain’s most popular royal

Princess Anne has been named the most popular member of the Royal Family in the latest YouGov rankings, with the Princess Royal ahead of the Princess of Wales and Prince William.

The figures place Anne first among British adults, with a popularity rating of 67 per cent. Catherine, Princess of Wales, follows with 64 per cent, while William ranks third on 62 per cent.

The figures also reveal a distinction between how well-known individual royals are and how positively the public views them.

According to YouGov’s ratings, 93 per cent of British adults are familiar with Princess Anne, while her popularity score stands at 67 per cent.

Prince William is even better known, with a fame rating of 98 per cent, but his popularity score is five percentage points lower than his aunt’s.

The King occupies fourth place in the rankings, with a popularity rating of 53 per cent.

Although 96 per cent of adults recognise him, his popularity score places him below Anne, Catherine and William.

The Duke of Edinburgh, ranks fifth with 47 per cent, followed by the Duchess of Edinburgh, who has a popularity rating of 45 per cent.

Zara Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter, is seventh with 39 per cent, while Queen Camilla has a popularity rating of 33 per cent.

The figures suggest that high public recognition does not necessarily translate into equally high popularity.

The ratings also show a substantial difference between the public standing of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Prince Harry has a fame rating of 98 per cent, putting him among the best-known figures in the royal rankings. His popularity score, however, is 29 per cent.

The Duchess of Sussex, has a fame rating of 95 per cent but a popularity score of 22 per cent.

Harry ranks tenth in the overall list, while Meghan is thirteenth.

The rankings change when the figures are broken down by age.

Among millennials, William takes first place with a popularity score of 60 per cent. Anne follows with 55 per cent, while Catherine ranks third with 51 per cent.

Harry’s popularity score among millennials is 34 per cent, while Meghan’s stands at 29 per cent.

Among baby boomers, Anne is the clear leader, recording a popularity rating of 89 per cent. Catherine follows with 84 per cent, while William has a score of 68 per cent.

The figures indicate that Anne’s position at the top of the overall rankings is particularly strong among older adults.

YouGov measures both fame and popularity through its public ratings.

Fame refers to the proportion of people who have heard of a public figure, while popularity measures the proportion who have a positive opinion of them.

The figures supplied by YouGov are based on responses collected over time and updated quarterly, rather than representing the result of a single poll conducted on one day.
