Prince Harry takes on role as patron of ‘Walk of America’

Kensington Palace has announced that Prince Harry is now a patron of the Walk of America expedition.

The challenge will see a team of six veterans from both the UK and America take on a 1000 mile trek stretching from the west to the east coast of the USA.

The team will be walking for a total of 14 weeks and are set to begin their journey on June 2nd in Los Angeles, which is Prince Harry’s, bride-to-be, Meghan Markle’s home.

The expedition will then finish on September 6th in New York after the team have ventured past some of America’s most iconic landmarks and locations.

The trek will be the latest organised by the armed forces charity, Walking With The Wounded.

Despite Prince Harry most likely not taking part in the expedition, he will meet with the three British team members and be making a speech in honour of formally launching the Walk of America.

The launch will be taking place in London on April 11th.

Kensington Palace have issued a statement, that can be found on their official Twitter page, saying: “The Walk of America will create a platform to tell the stories of wounded veterans and their  journeys from injury to the present day, and encourage a wider conversation around veteran mental health.”

“The expedition will also raise vital funds for veterans both sides of the Atlantic.”

It is expected, and likely that expectations will now be increased after the trek, the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will make the United States the home of their first joint official over-seas tour.

And this is not the first time Prince Harry has been involved in a Walking With The Wounded expedition. In 2013 he took on a tough trek to the South Pole in aid of the charity, joining injured British servicemen and women who were racing against other groups from the Commonwealth and America.

2015 saw Prince Harry and a group of wounded Afghanistan veterans venture 1000 miles across Britain.

So despite the Prince not being due to take part in the Walk of America, the six veterans who are taking on the whole challenge can do so knowing they have the Prince’s full support.
