Prince George and Princess Charlotte excited for their own chicks to hatch

While at the Farms for City Children on Wednesday, bonding with the sheep, pigs, chickens, and children, the Duchess of Cambridge revealed that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are excited for the three dozen chicks they have at Anmer Hall to hatch. Along with their dog, Lupo, and hamster, Marvin, the Cambridges also have five chickens and an incubator of eggs waiting to hatch.

“She has got several Cuckoo Marans at home, she told me,” stockman Dave Evansoneya, 50, told reporters after the Duchess’s visit. He also added that she has no problem getting her royal hands dirty: “She says she had cleaned out a few chicken sheds in her time!”

The Duchess said that her children were getting involved with the eggs in the incubator. Mr Evansoneya said: “She told me and the children that she has an incubator of eggs at home at the moment with a hope that they are going to hatch into chicks.

“Her children are very excited.”

Vauxhall primary school teacher, Nicole Preston, added, “The incubator is relatively new, and she doesn’t know if it is going to work. She says it takes 21 days, but George and Charlotte are so excited that they come down each morning and peer inside to see if anything has happened!”

Her Royal Highness also spent time with nine-year-old Sayanna who speaks Spanish. She said that she is teaching the royal children the language and that George can already count to ten. “She said she is trying to teach Charlotte Spanish and said her son, George can count up to ten in Spanish already,” the young girl said.

Edison David, head teacher at Vauxhall Primary School, said that the Duchess was quite adept at assisting weighing pigs: “She was pushing the pig’s bum with her bare hands,” he said. “It was just to move the pig along. It was second nature to her. ”

John Goodman, the farm manager, added: “Some people are very aloof with pigs. I didn’t know if she was one. But she was very natural, she blended in very quickly.”

Teacher, Natalie Graham, said that the children presented Catherine with a handmade birthday card for Princess Charlotte and Paddington Bear.

“She told them that they had a little party for Charlotte yesterday and she sung ‘Happy Birthday’ to herself! It was so sweet,” Graham said. “She loved the card and present and said Charlotte would love it too as the card had Peppa Pig which she loved.”
