It was discovered today through several sources that the 40th-in-line to the throne, Lord Fredrick Windsor and his wife Lady Fredrick (Sophie Winkleman) are expecting a child. The discovery comes only months after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced they were expecting their first child. Reports say that Lady Fredrick is now 4 months pregnant and is due to give birth in August, not long after the Duchess of Cambridge’s due date!
‘Freddie Windsor’, as he is known to friends and family, is the son of TRH Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Prince Michael is a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II which makes Lord Freddie 1st cousin, once removed of HM the Queen.
As a son of a Prince, but not closely related to the Monarch, Freddie is entitled to the style of ‘The Lord’ as the son of a Prince is accorded the same style and title as a Duke under the 1917 letters patent. His wife, the former Sophie Winkleman (who still uses the name for her acting career) assumed the style of Lady Fredrick Windsor upon her marriage to Lord Freddie in 2009.
No official message has come from Buckingham Palace of the Queen’s congratulations, nor is there likely to be for the 40th-in-line to the throne and his wife, though we’re sure they would have been privately congratulated.
Lord Freddie actually maintains a career as a finance analyst and never performs any royal engagements. As a non-active member of the Royal Family, not much is ever said about him, he maintains quite a normal life.
No title will be accorded to this child, unlike the child of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s child which will definitely be styled as a Prince or Princess.
