Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo: Royal Nanny

With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge away on their tour of India and Bhutan many wonder who’s left to take care of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The woman tasked with the upbringing of the future King of England and his little sister is the Spanish nanny Maria Turrion Barrallo.

Maria definitely has one of the most prestigious jobs in the country that comes with a lot of responsibility. Having to help raise the future King of England is no easy task, but Maria comes more than qualified, having graduated from the prestigious Norland Collage in Bath, she came recommended to Prince William and Kate.

Since joining the royal family in 2014 Maria has become like another member of the family, even living with them at Kensington Palace, and has grown especially close to Kate. She has been photographed with George and Charlotte playing in the park and has even joined the family on several trips including New Zealand and Australia, where she made her first public appearance.

Maria caught the attention and hearts of the people at Princess Charlotte’s christening when she attended wearing the traditional uniform of Norland Collage comprised of no makeup, hair up, one pair of studded earrings, flat lace shoes, Edwardian brown uniform, bowler hat, bow tie, felt hat and white gloves. The Mary Poppins looking uniform has barely been updated since the school opened it doors in 1892.

“Other than his parents, Prince George’s nanny is the person who knows him best in the whole world and who’s closest to him. And she has a lovely bond George” Said royal commentator Victoria Murphy on Maria’s relationship with Prince George.

One of the sweetest moments was when Princess Charlotte made her debut outside of the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s hospital wearing a gift given to her by Maria. The gift, a hand made cream bonnet by the Spanish company Irulea was one of a few others bought by Maria for the unborn baby who’s gender was then unknown.

Maria has without a doubt been doing an amazing job taking care Prince George and Princess Charlotte and formed an unbreakable bond with the whole family. She will certainly hold a special place in the hearts of the Cambridge’s and the public for years to come.
