Belgium’s Prince Amedeo and Princess Elisabetta Maria expecting first child

Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia aren’t the only royals expecting a child next month. The Royal Palace of Belgium confirmed on Tuesday, 12th April that Prince Amedio, (30), and his wife, Princess Elisabetta “Lili” Maria Rosboch von Wolkenstein, (28), are expecting their first child next month. The sex of the child was not revealed in the announcement

Unlike other European royal couples, Prince Amedeo and his wife have maintained a low public profile, living and working outside the spotlight. They met while they both attended university in London. The Prince graduated from London’s School of Economics in 2008. After his graduation, they then moved to New York where he attended Columbia University to earn his MBA while Elisabetta Maria, who comes from Italian nobility, worked for Bloomberg News as a cultural journalist. She recently completed a six-month internship in the European Parliament. Amedeo has worked in Management Consulting for Deloitte and McKinsey & Co.

They announced their engagement in February, 2014, and were married at Rome’s Basilica Santa Maria on July 5th later that year.

Prince Amedeo is the sixth in succession to the Belgian throne. His uncle, King Philippe became king when his father, Prince Albert II abdicated in 2013. The new royal baby won’t have the title of rince or Princess though. Amedeogate, a technicality in the Belgian constitution, briefly stripped Prince Amedeo of his title. Nevertheless, the new royal baby will be seventh in succession to the throne. Title or no, this new edition to the royal family will be the first grandchild for Prince Amedeo’s parents, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz and the first great-grandchild for ex-King Prince Albert II.
