The five-month-old daughter of Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor was baptised last month in the same christening robe that was worn by Princess Charlotte and Prince George. It is a replica of the christening gown made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal in 1841. The original was worn by all royal until the christening of James, Viscount Severn in 2008. The replica was created as the original became too fragile to use.
Isabella Alexandra May Windsor was born on 16 January 2016 at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and through her father she is the granddaughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. She also has an older sister, named Maud, who was born on 15 August 2013 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Isabella’s christening took place at the Chapel at Kensington Palace and it was conducted by the Bishop of London, the Rt Rev, Richard Chartres. One of her godparents is celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. Jame Oliver met Isabella’s mother, Sophie, while filming Food Revolution USA back in 2011.
Speaking of his second daughter’s birth Lord Frederick Windsor said, “I am thrilled to have a second little girl. I didn’t realise how funny little girls can be until I had one. I’m also thrilled they’ll have each other. As a child I had – still have – a close bond with my younger sister [Lady Gabriella Windsor] and it will be wonderful to watch Maud and Isabella play and grow up together like we did. The bond you form with your sibling can be the longest one you have with anyone in your life.”
Lady Frederick Windsor added, “We haven’t stopped cuddling her since she was born,” Sophie, 35, said. “I carry her everywhere with me.”
Isabella and her sister Maud are currently 47th and 48th in the line of succession, behind their father.
