If there’s one outfit that gets almost as much interest as the bride’s on a wedding day, it’s that worn by her mother. And just before noon today, as she walked into St. George’s Chapel, Windsor to see her daughter become the Duchess of Sussex, all eyes were on Doria Ragland.

For her daughter’s big day, Doria turned to Oscar de la Renta for a classic two piece outfit in palest green. The creative directors of the design house, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, produced a knee length dress with high scoop neck and a coat with soft lapels and long sleeves. The skirt of both dress and coat featured delicate white lace embroidery.
The first glimpse we’d had of Doria as mother of the bride had come as she accompanied her daughter, Meghan Markle, to the church for her royal wedding. Through the windows of the car taking them from Cliveden, where they’d spent the night before the wedding, to Windsor there was a chance to see the wool hat by Stephen Jones that Doria chose for the occasion.
This special outfit was completed with shoes by Aquazzura while the mother of the bride also carried a rectangular gold clutch bag. Like many a mum before her, she chose a shade that complemented the hues in the bridal party itself.

Doria Ragland left the church at the side of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall with the newly created Duke of Sussex turning back to acknowledge his mother in law as he and his duchess departed the church for their carriage procession through the streets of Windsor. We may well see Doria in another outfit tonight at the celebration being held by Prince Charles for the newlyweds at Frogmore House. But her choice for her moment as mother of the bride takes its own place in royal wedding history.
