Zara Tindall had the perfect response when Prince William asked this awkward question

Zara Tindall has offered a glimpse into her close relationship with the Prince of Wales after sharing a humorous response to an awkward question he once asked during an equestrian competition.

Zara and William are cousins, having grown up together as part of the wider Royal Family. Their relationship has remained close into adulthood, with Zara often appearing alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales at family occasions and sporting events.

Their easygoing relationship was highlighted during an episode of the Talk Horse podcast, in which Zara appeared alongside her husband, Mike Tindall.

During the conversation, presenter and equestrian Pippa Funnell recalled an unfortunate experience at a competition in which she had suffered two falls.

Covered in mud and blood after what had been a particularly difficult day, Pippa was making her way back to the stables when she encountered Prince William.

The Prince, apparently unaware of the full extent of her misfortune, asked her: “Have you had a good day?”

Zara’s reaction to the story was immediate.

“Does it look like it?” she responded ironically, prompting laughter from those taking part in the podcast.

The exchange offered an amusing insight into the familiarity between Zara and William, with the Princess Royal’s daughter seemingly unafraid to poke fun at her cousin.

Zara and William have known each other since childhood and share a family connection that extends beyond their royal status.

As the daughter of the Princess Royal, Zara is the King’s niece, while William is her first cousin. Despite their different positions within the Royal Family, both have maintained a relatively relaxed relationship, particularly around their shared interests and family gatherings.

Zara has forged her own path as an accomplished equestrian, becoming an Olympic silver medallist at the London 2012 Games. Unlike William, she does not hold a royal title, a decision made by her parents when she and her brother, Peter Phillips, were born.

The arrangement has allowed Zara to pursue her sporting career and professional interests while remaining a familiar presence within the Royal Family.

Her relationship with William has previously been described as particularly close. Royal author Robert Jobson has written about Zara’s ability to speak candidly to her cousin, suggesting that their longstanding familiarity allows her to offer him an honest perspective.

Growing up together, including spending time with the wider family at Christmas and during holidays in Scotland, has helped foster that bond.

The closeness between the cousins is also reflected in Zara’s relationship with William’s own family.

She was named one of the godparents of Prince George, the eldest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, underlining the trust and affection shared between the families.

Zara and Mike have also maintained a friendly relationship with William and Catherine, often appearing together at royal celebrations and sporting occasions.

Their shared interest in sport has provided further opportunities for the families to spend time together away from official engagements.

While Zara has built an independent life outside the formal duties undertaken by senior working royals, she remains a well-established member of the King’s extended family.
