The Duke and Duchess of York have released a joint statement reacting to the news that their eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, is engaged to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Andrew and Sarah say they are “lucky parents of a wonderful daughter” adding that Edoardo is a “lovely young man.”
In full, the Duke and Duchess said: “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride. We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”
Beatrice and Edward became engaged earlier this month while on a holiday in Italy.
In a statement, Beatrice and Edoardo said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement.
“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to actually be married.”
It is unclear how long the couple have been together, with the media first reporting that the two of them were in a relationship in late 2018.
Edoardo made his first public appearance alongside Beatrice in March when he attended an event at the National Portrait Gallery.
Beatrice will marry Edoardo in a ceremony next year. More details will be announced in due course.
