Princess Eugenie celebrates Platinum Jubilee as final countdown begins

Princess Eugenie paid a visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on Wednesday to meet with the winner of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Emblem Competition.

Edward Roberts, who designed the winning emblem—a take on St. Edward’s Crown done in a continuous line to represent the longevity of The Queen’s reign—has had his work featured on a lot of official merchandise and marketing materials for the Platinum Jubilee. His work is on display in a new V&A exhibit alongside other shortlisted designs.

“We’re delighted to display Edwards Robert’s winning design for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Emblem alongside the imaginative work of the talented young designers shortlisted for the competition,” said the V&A’s Director Tristram Hunt in a statement.

“At the V&A, our mission is to nurture future generations of artists and designers through our world-leading collections of art, design and performance, and we hope visitors to this free display will feel inspired by the creative talent of the submissions to reflect on Her Majesty.”

Eugenie shared photos of the engagement on her official Instagram, writing: “It was such a pleasure meeting the winner of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Emblem Competition, Edward Roberts, at the @vamuseum this morning.

“A great way to kick off the weekend of Jubilee celebrations, both the winner and all the runners up are on exhibit at the museum, who ran this competition for 13-25-year-olds to design the emblem that will be the marker for this most special and exciting weekend.”

Roberts, a design student at Leeds University, designed the official Platinum Jubilee emblem in a competition hosted by the V&A last year. At the time, Roberts said, “For my design, I wanted to give a modern twist to the iconic elements of St Edward’s Crown, and so I created a continuous line, which I felt was a fitting representation of The Queen’s reign.”
