Princess Beatrice of York accidentally gave Ed Sheeran a nasty cut to his face, as she took part in a ‘mock-investiture’ with a ceremonial sword.
The Princess was supposed to ‘knight’ musician James Blunt, but instead sliced Mr Sheeran on the cheek.
At a party at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, the home of the Princess’ father, Prince Andrew, Blunt is said to have joked that he would love to become Sir James.
The incident occurred at her father, Prince Andrew’s home, where Mr Blunt reportedly said he would love to become ‘Sir James Blunt’.
The Princess then grabbed a ceremonial sword as Mr Blunt got onto one knee. When she lifted the sword, it swung back and gave Mr Sheeren a nasty cut on his cheek.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, a source said: “The blade cut into his face and it was just a few inches from his right eye,” a source told the newspaper. “A couple of the guests said it could have been worse and he could have been blinded in the eye, but Ed really played it down.
“Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset. But Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident.
“However, it became apparent that the wound needed treatment, so Ed was taken to hospital. He had to have stitches put in.”
The injury could have been a lot worse if the sword was lifted just a little bit higher at eye level. Princess Beatrice was said to be ‘inconsolable’ after the incident.
The circumstances of the event at Prince Andrew’s home is unclear, although it is thought Beatrice hosted around 20 guests including her mother, Sarah, Duchess of York.

On the other hand, for the rest of his life, Mr. Sheeren can tell the story about how Princess Beatrice slashed his face.
I doubt the accuracy of this story as it comes for gossiping tabloids, It was probably a slow news day. He could have got that cut for anything, but then again bizarre things happen all the time.
I’m glad they clarified which cheek she cut, because for a second I thought she aimed at his butt.
