YEAR IN REVIEW: Prince Louis (nearly) steals the show at the Platinum Jubilee

Many remember the pageantry of the historic milestone as Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Platinum Jubilee. Whether you watched most of the events or a little bit, there’s one royal who sticks out (besides Her Late Majesty, of course,). Welcome to the royal stage, Prince Louis.

During the four-day long bank holiday weekend, Queen Elizabeth’s 4-year-old grandson Prince Louis nearly managed to get as much attention as The Queen. The weekend kicked off with Trooping the Colour, the Monarch’s official birthday parade. Her Majesty was joined on the balcony of Buckingham Palace by then-Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Standing proudly next to his great-grandma, the youngest of the Cambridge household made silly faces throughout the event. At some points, he could be seen screaming and covering his ears to muffle the sounds of the military planes flying over the palace. The Duchess was seen trying to calm Louis down multiple times. As for Her Late Majesty, it was business as usual as she kept her composure while smiling at Louis. The Platinum Queen appeared to relish every second of her young great grandson’s exploits.

The Cambridge children were absent for the Service of Thanksgiving but made one final Jubilee appearance on the last day of the holiday weekend during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. Sitting next to his mum, Louis could be seen making funny faces and sticking his tongue out. Even his older sister Charlotte tried to get him to put the cheeky faces away. Louis was having none of it from Charlotte or his mum as he tried to cover the Duchess’ mouth while she was talking to him. Despite his displeasure, he was seen quieting down and giving his mum a cuddle during the event.

Like many things do nowadays, Prince Louis’ reactions went viral, with thousands posting about his cheeky expressions and dozens of memes being created. When his grandpa, King Charles is crowned in May, people will be sure to watch the young prince for his likely noteworthy reactions during the festivities.
