The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly planning to meet US President Joe Biden during their whirlwind visit to Boston this week.
President Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, announced the news: “The President intends to greet the Prince and Princess of Wales when he is in Boston—we are still finalising and working through the details.”
President Biden was previously scheduled to be in Boston while William and Catherine are in the city for the Earthshot Prize, though not to attend the ceremony. Instead, the President will be in Boston for a Senate fundraiser.
Kensington Palace has not commented on these plans yet, and reports have stated that there are no changes to William and Catherine’s schedule to date. Jean-Pierre said in her press briefing, “We don’t have any more specifics to share” on the meeting.
CBS News speculated based on sources close to the President, that the meeting may take place at the John F. Kennedy Library Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.
During his tenure as President, Biden has met with the Royal Family on several occasions, visiting the late Queen Elizabeth II at her Windsor Castle home—a rare privilege only extended to a few American Presidents she met throughout her reign—and vowing: “In the years ahead, we look forward to continuing a close friendship with The King and The Queen Consort,” following King Charles III’s accession.
William and Catherine began their first visit to the United States in nearly a decade on Wednesday afternoon. William released a statement before landing in Boston, saying: “To the people of Boston, thank you. I’m so grateful to you for allowing us to host the second year of the Earthshot prize in your great city. Catherine and I can’t wait to meet many of you in the days ahead.”
