Renovation work supposedly began on the home in September of
last year after King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council agreed
on the plans for the refurbishment. William, Catherine and
Prince George currently reside at their apartment in Kensington
Palace, which also went through a great deal of renovations
recently in order for the family to move in and have a city
residence in the capital.
One building which is linked to Anmer Hall, which was previously
the old wood store, has now been renovated into a flat in order for
Prince George’s nanny, Maria Borallo, to reside in.
New clay pantiles, costing an estimated £500,000, have been put in
place across the roof of the mansion. Tony Passmore, who is
managing director of Passmore Group who specialise in
refurbishments, has stated that the tiles are “rather bog
standard”. He commented: “Surprisingly, they aren’t much different
from the kind of tiles you and I would have on our houses and are
actually in keeping with a traditional style house”. Passmore
continued by saying: “The colour is rather bright but they will
weather and in five years or so will look as if they have been
there forever”.
A number of the rooms upstairs previously had rotting window
frames, so have been replaced with dormer windows, with timber and
lead roofs, costing around £100,000.
The refurbishment also included work on a new ‘garden room’, where
a glass roof has been installed above a large dining table allowing
for a great deal of light to come through into the room. The room
was designed by Charles Morris, a favourite architect of Prince
Charles’s, and it has been estimated in costing
£250,000-£300,000.

Anmer Hall is on The Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
In order to give the young family more privacy, the main driveway has been rerouted across a field in front of house and the main gate to the residence has been moved further away from the house. There is also a garage block of accommodation for police protection officers. As the home is privately owned by Her Majesty, all of the costs for the renovations have been made by the Royal family.
