The start of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s tour of Sweden got overshadowed on Tuesday morning after Twitter erupted in outrage and confusion after Kate was apparently spotted wearing a bobble hat made of fur.
After numerous clarifications by Kensington Palace, the hat was finally established to be faux fur, however, the confirmation did not come until after many hours of speculation on social media.
Some really fun William and Kate photos coming out of Sweden this morning but disappointing if that’s a real fur bobble hat 🙁 https://t.co/pk4wikNwPu

In spite of the Twitter outcry, Kensington Palace says the Duchess was not wearing fur on her bobble hat earlier. I believe the gloves were fake fur too and the coat shearling.

KP is adamant having double checked (those I have spoken to have seen the description of the item itself) that Kate is wearing the faux version of a @EugeniaKim bobble hat today. I’d be the first to criticise her for wearing real fur, but it doesn’t seem the case.

Kensington Palace has double checked and is adamant the hat is faux fur. It won’t confirm the make. Is this #fakefurnews?

This hat is the one we saw at Christmas last year. It’s real Alpaca fur, collected from farmers in Peru. The animals don’t have to be killed to collect the fur I believe. The brand is Peruvian Connection.
